Anyhow, här mina noteringar so far;

Carputer Hardware Selection
The first consideration was touchscreen or keyboard. My experience with touch screen has been very limited hence some skepticism, but after a chance to try it out I was absolutely convinced it is the way to go in a vehicle. So touch screen it is.
The second consideration then was either a pc with separate screen and computer or a tablet PC. I found a lot of car pc parts including touch screen on ebay to reasonable costs, but no tablet PC's to decent costs. Some more searching on internet I found a company
http://www.coorui.com in China located just down the street from my companies office in Shenzhen selling tablet PC's, where I was able to get a 10 inch tablet PC for under 3000 RMB (~2800 SEK), a bargain. After cleaning out a bunch of worms and viruses I am completely in love with this gadget !
Now I just need to figure out how to mount it. I am also a bit worried about the PC's ability to withstand conditions when four wheeling like vibrations, moist etc.
Carputer Frontend Software
Using a normal windows desktop and menus on a touch screen, while driving isn't easy…..
So I need to find a touch friendly front end to my Carputer. There are quite a few out there, most by hobby programmers, some open source. It seems like main focus for most are media while as for me that is secondary. After looking at product web pages and browsing some forum the decision was to do a more in depth test of iCT and Centrafuse, much because of the OBD support and acceptance in the Carputer community. After running both for a week and both of them are pretty good. iCT is free and Centrafuse is not. On the other hand Centrafuse have built in Navigation with routing. So with iCT you would have to get GPS Nav software that is usually as expensive as Centrafuse.
So more than likely I will use Centrafuse.
OK, so I bought and installed Centrafuse, works great.

Offroad Navigation
It was difficult to find software for this that would not ruin me completely. Most are from GPS companies such as Garmin, Magellan etc. Then there is Fugawi that allows you to scan your own maps or use official goverment issued maps. So the choice seemed to be limitied and obvious. There where some software that could use USGS topo maps, but nothing else, so not an option if you live outside US.
After downloading the trial version of Fugawi and testing it, this is probably what I will use. A competent software but not very touchscreen friendly.
I later discovered Ozi explorer, need to evaluate
